I began my studies with the OLTD program with the hopes of creating an online photography course. I know very little about how the online environment works today. My experience with online teaching is limited and took place over seven years ago. Where I hope to be headed with my OLTD studies is to be looking through a wide angle lens that provides me a view all around at what is happening in the online teaching environment. My OLTD learning environment is going to be my lens. The more I read and experience with my OLTD studies, the more questions arise.
Would I need a learning management system and which one would suit my needs? What forms of assessment will I use? How will I engage the students to participate in an online community? How will I meet the needs of diverse learners? Would I choose a hybrid model or rely on the entire course being online? How much of the course will be taught synchronous verses asynchronous? What forms of technology are available to me and will my district support them? What social media will I choose to accompany my course? My journey will find me zooming in and out of focus with each new learning opportunity that presents itself.
My greatest expectation for my learning in this program is to be confident that my online teaching follows best teaching practises and my students find the flexibility, engagement and ownership of learning that is needed to create some form of transformation within their learning.
